Sarchí is 35 minutes from the airport. Not three hours — 35 minutes on the highway, no switchbacks, no mountain driving in the dark. You sleep, wake up rested, pick up your rental in daylight, and head out into the whole country from the most central point that exists in Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, you are staying in the country’s most famous artisan town, surrounded by waterfalls most tourists never see because they are rushing somewhere else.

Why Sarchí Is the Best Place to Start (and End) Your Trip
35 minutes from SJO airport. Your first night in Costa Rica should not be a red-eye drive. Neither should your last one: if your flight leaves at 6 a.m., sleeping in Guanacaste or Manuel Antonio means driving mountain roads in the dark. From Sarchí, you leave with time to spare, rested and alert.
