Costa Rica 2-Week Itinerary: The Complete 14-Day Route
Two weeks is Costa Rica’s sweet spot. Enough time for all three worlds — volcano, cloud forest, and Pacific — with real rest days between transfers.
At a glance
2 nights Sarchí · 3 Arenal · 2 Monteverde · 3 Sámara or Nosara · 3 Manuel Antonio · 1 night Sarchí (pre-flight) — 14 nights total.
Days 1–2 — Sarchí and the Western Valley
Arrival and acclimatization at 1,000 m. Bajos del Toro waterfalls, the topiary park at Zarcero, and La Eva Coffee Tour. See the full day-trip list in hidden gems near Sarchí.
Days 3–5 — La Fortuna / Arenal Volcano (2 h 30 min)
Hot springs, hanging bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall, and a full-day trip to Río Celeste — the blue river fed by Tenorio Volcano.
Days 6–7 — Monteverde (3 h via Tilarán, or taxi-boat-taxi across the lake)
Cloud forest reserve, the original canopy tour, treetop hanging bridges, and a night walk. Bring a rain shell — it rains sideways here.
Days 8–10 — Sámara or Nosara (3 h 30 min)
Guanacaste without the resorts. Sámara for swimming and families; Nosara for surf and yoga. Three nights of doing nothing — you will have earned them.
Days 11–13 — Manuel Antonio and the Central Pacific (4 h 30 min)
National park, plus Uvita / Marino Ballena as a day trip — the Whale’s Tail sandbar that forms at low tide. Humpback season runs July–October and December–March.
Day 14 — Manuel Antonio → Sarchí (3 h)
Back to the Western Valley. Last night 35 minutes from the airport.
Day 15 — Flight home
An unhurried departure. Sarchí is the best place in the country for real artisan shopping — Souvenir Marín is the maker, not the reseller — so leave room in the suitcase.
Adjusting the Route
